I put my header and footer, and navigation files in common files. This makes it much simpler to maintain and manage. I also like putting my AdSense code into the include files. If I’m looking to modify the AdSense code, it’s only one file to work on. A tip: I use programming to turn the AdSense off or on. I can change one global variable to true or false and my AdSense ads will either show up or disappear.

Controlling URL’s and channels

AdSense channels are one instance where it’s really easy to go overboard with stats. You can set up URL channels to see the performance of a website with the other. It is also possible to set up sub channels to each URL. If you want to set up channels in the following manner:

Although this is excellent for testing and understanding the people who click on which pages and what they click this can cause your reporting to be slightly jumbled. Your total number is always correct, however when you look at your reports with an individual channel breakdown, things can be displayed multiple times and will not make up the correct total. This makes things quite confusing so consider if you need that level of details? TIP: At minimum, you should know what URL is generating income, so be certain to input different URLs.
